AST2000 Specifications |
Overview: |
| There are many cable and
harness test applications that involve complex program flow to
integrate manual or machine operations. Switch operation, relay
energising, mechanical tests, functional tests, marking and voiding
are examples where conventional (stand-alone) testers are difficult to
implement. The AST 2000 is designed for machine integration making
automation of complex operations straightforward offering faster, more
cost effective test solutions. The AST 2000 has found wide application
in end-of-line harness test in high volume environments such as
automotive and consumer electronics manufacturing but is equally
suited to any task where electrical test and computer control are
essential. |
24 volt logicThe heart of AST 2000 is a powerful PLC. By using 24 volts as the test level, all wiring continuity and pattern tests communicate directly with the controller enabling test to interact with any logical conditionally. The test program can be preceded by automated or manual data entry such as bar codes, names, dates, batch numbers etc. and can be followed by automated action conditional on test events such as Pass or Fail or a when any given pattern is recognised. The PLC enables a range of accessory equipment to be switched in such as markers, specific function tests, encapsulations, colour measurement, guillotines, punches etc. at any time within the program flow. |
ProgrammingThe AST 2000 is an application specific tester and is programmed to perform designed functions. This level of programming is achieved off-line and all requirements are designed in at this stage. Two other levels are provided: The operator level enables basic start and input functions and the supervisor level, accessed by key, provides programmed access for decision making and troubleshooting |
Typical applicationCost saving and increased test speed is a common justification for AST 2000 by manufacturers of high density male connectors. Automatic machines load headers with contacts whose number and position is customer specific. The test ensures exact pinning to the customer specification. Defective connectors are automatically identified and removed. The AST 2000 is programmed by using a known good sample and by completing simple dialogues within the Windows display. The number of connectors that will be tested simultaneously is always a maximum dependent on the total number of test pins available. Testing 128 test points takes 50 ms. The automation advantage of AST-2000 typically increases connector throughput by 500%. |
